I recently signed up with a drag racing team (running a nitro dragster) to handle sales and marketing. I want to give potential sponsers a value added package with more then just car or transporter advertising. I want to show how our team can get them more sales. I was thinking of a survey at the NHRA events but that would be difficult. Maybe if I offer a discount on the sponsors product and hand out tickets with a web site so a fan can log on - well you get the picture. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

What is commonly done in these cases is you and your team, provide complementary tickets and hospitality (caterered food and comfort of your 50 foot RV. They can then bring their fiends and family for a day at the races.

But I'm sure your team has already been dooing this for your sponsors.

All you need to know about marketing. :)

Excellent idea. Maybe twins would draw fans to our pit area.

Is this a NHRA Pro Drag Race team? With National Events?

I have noticed that most 'pits' who hand out stickers, or little freebies (KeyChains) Draw big crowds. Most of the stickers end up in the bathroom walls, or assorted places around the track during the day..so that is advertising. I think the general saying "If its free its for me" applies to almost everyone.

The other day at an event I got a K&N KeyChain just by asking a few questions about the filters....sometimes the little things help!

Herb this is a pro team that is scheduled to run 17 events. I like the idea of freebies but I need a way of giving the sponser feed back that will show that we are increasing his sales.

Why not have the person take a small servey?

IE:

Did you know about this product before you came to the track?

Do you think you would like to buy one of the items after seeing it here?

Is this product offered in your town?

Do you think this is a fair price for the product?

Then: Thank You for your time...as a token of our appreciation here is a gift from the sponser!

Walking away from it the person gets a free gift, and if the interviewer was respectful, and kind to them it leaves them with a positive image of the product.

Hard to make suggestions not knowing what the sponsors are selling. There could be many ideas such as personal appearances by the driver signing autographs, having the car set up at malls/festivals/events with an information booth, radio station remote broadcast tie-ins, parades, charitable and community involvement, SEMA, PRI, parts store/hi-performance chain tie-ins, coupons featuring the car/driver, etc.

Does the team do anything that sets them apart from the crowd? What type of car/engine? Dealerships are always doing traffic builders. Contacting a local zone office of the manufacturer for they type car/engine might get you a dealership promo tour in the area (set up for a day with driver and car on their lot, more interesting than a blow up Godzilla on the roof).

Just a few thoughts.

Seeing as you got the job.....shouldn't you already know a little something about marketing??

I have sales and marketing experience in the electronics industry. I guess I did a good job of selling myself to this team.

Thanks John, for your thoughts. We do cover appearences in our proposals to potential sponsers. I spoke to a large wheel manufacturer and he thought our proposal was put together well but like other proposals that they receive it does not answer the question of how my team will sell more wheels for them. Today this person is going to sit down with us to exchange some ideas that will increase our chances for success.
Thanks.

I agree with you Herb on the survey for a gift idea.
Thanks,
