CALPAK chip, small chip

I have a 86 ecm part# 1227148 that is missing the small chip . Is that the CALPAK chip? What does this do for the ecm? I have a 85 ecm with a smsll chip part #16036504. Could I use that part# in the 86 ecm?

The chip is called a cal-pak. It is a back-up chip the keeps the car running in the event of a main computer chip failure. The 84/85 cal-pak chip can be used on the 86/87 ECM as my memory serves me. Some one will help verify this. Brad

Yes, it can and should be used when upgrading the ECM.
