I have the roller cam button for my motor and i am trying to put it in so i can shim it if neccessary. Does the silver bottom piece I am holding in my hand go in the end of the cam? I am guessing it is a snug fit? please help ASAP!!

im at this exact point in my engine build as well...with a comp cam kit...so it is a snug fit with that button then the other part of the button point goes towards the cam?...i noticed that there are about three or four loose shims ...and then there are some more shims attached to the other piece of the button around the pointed end and held in by a small type of snap ring...so the questions are???

do i need to machine my stock timing cover on the inside where the old cam button was rubbing so that it is completely flat???...it is kind of grooved with a small bump in the middle from the last button...

next ...do i need to machine that rectangular tab on the inside of the cover by the cam sensor opening??? reason i ask is that i have heard there might be a clearance problem if you run a double roller timing chain...

next...i torque the front cover down ...i am using a felpro gasket...leave it for a couple hours for gasket to settle and retorque for a more accurate reading...now i put a dial indicator on the back of the cam through the frost plug move the cam to get the endplay...now if its off i take the cover off and remove or add x amount of shims to get proper endplay ...reinstall and finished????

so does that sound about right ...thanks for the help...noah.

#1 Yes the shims are used to adjust the end play, do not mess with the
washers on the button.
#2 Yes but it is going to make the clearance greater you may have to build
up the cover if the wear is excessive.
#3 Yes, if you need more shims give me a call as we have changed the
shim pack as of about a month ago.

...and then i had to sand down my cover where the old cam button used to sit so it is flat and i took down the tab a bit so the double roller wouldnt have any clearance problems....
