When changing the timing chain, is it necessary to change the button/spring? It looks fine, not sure what I'm looking for though?

I ordered one from Poston, not arrived yet. Is this a stock type button or a improved version??
Can you get a button from a local parts store or from GM's. I was hoping everything would be here so I could put everthing together tomorrow.
Want to drive the car to B.G Kentucky.

Thanks for the info guys....:)

dig a whole thru your timing cover and they tend to break up too.

Oh, forgot.

Do I need to repair the worn area before installing the new cam button?

It's definitely an improved version. Your local Parts place or GM dealer maaaay have one.

Don't know how you can repair the damage unless you drill it out and put a nut and bolt in place for a new surface area. If it's not tooo bad, don't worry about it.

It's not to bad, but does have a bur around the outer part of the circle. If I had to I possibly could weld it and polish back smooth.

Not on the top of my list though, I guess I'll call the local GM dealer in the morning and see and if not I'll have to wait...

The new button has a smaller in diameter "head" so it rides inside the "imprint." It'll be fine prolly.
