Still a little new at this stuff, but from what i understand i am now running a JL92 chip and about 22-23psi of boost on 100octane with 02s around the 770ish area or so. My understanding is if i swap my 92 and put in 100chip this will add timing, which means i will not be able to run as much boost right? so what would be the benefit of throwing the 100 chip in there anyway? more boost=more horsepower right? less boost, but more timing in a chip=s what?? wouldnt that come out roughly the same as far as performance? i was always under the understanding to crank the boost up with these cars and keep it tuned with enough fuel and air to get the ponies along with some good solid octane!! so bottom line is what do i gain by going to 100 octane chip. Im getting a good amount of boost now with the 92 chip as you can see. All i do is run 100 octane in there anyway. Sorry for the long thread, but i guess this is how we learn:D

thanks

You're missing one thing....higher octane.

More timing + more boost + more octane = lots more power.

I'm sure there are a few other differences but this is the basics. Most race chips are designed for 116.

Hey zam is there any real gain by switching to the 100 chip and keeping 100 octane in there? im sure i will have to turn down the boost correct? or is it more horsepower gain with what i have in there now and keeping the boost at 23psi?

thanks

With your combo, you should be able to do a 108-110 race chip with 112-116 octane race gas and 22-25psi of boost. Just watch the 02s, EGT (if you have one), and of course the knock. From my experience, if your car is tuned in well on a street chip and pump gas (or in your case 100 octane), you should be able to swap to a race chip, put in good gas, and turn the boost up with little or no tuning involved. But maybe Im just lucky?

In my GN (stock turbo, stock ic, blue top inj), I run a Jay Carter 110 race chip, with straight 110 octane race gas and have no problem running 22psi with no detonation and high 700 02s. HTH

Thanks Neil i usually just drive my car on the weekends and play around on the street. I was trying to avoid leaded fuel, for 02s going bad and the price of race fuel. I can pump 100 from the local 76 station no problem which is unleaded. As you can see im getting a good amount of boost now with the 100 octane and the 92 chip, i just was wondering if putting the 100 chip in there if i would be gaining any hp or performance. So basically 100 chip and 100 octane is not going to get me any more boost, i would probably have to turn the boost down some im assuming. Anymore input?

thanks

With your street chip you may be limited to 22-23 lbs of boost because of the fueling tables in the chip. The 100 chip may command more fuel, so with the proper octane, you should be able to run about the same boost.

Thanks vin. I could probably squeeze another pound or so out of this chip, with some fuel pressure adj.:D i hit a rock solid 23psi of boost right now with 02s at bottom end somewhere around 780-770s or so. 3rd is a little tricky though 02s have dropped down to about 750s or so with about 1 degree of spark retard on the scanmaster.

thanks

Since there is no injector upgrade listed in your sig, I assume you have stock injectors? Not good with a TE44. You need an injector upgrade to run more boost.
Get some injectors, THEN get a chip burned for your combo

Check it out black in my sig 009s with the JL92 chip in there right now:D lots of boost.
