oil seal is leaking on my te44, at a stop sign i get a huge cloud and i see if leaking from the center section of the turbo as well. is it self servicable or do i have to send it out?

how much would a rebuild cost and how much could i get for it sold as is with just a bad seal only 4 months old but like most 300 miles

yes it can be rebuilt at home. but some care needs to be used during disasembly to insure that parts are replaced in there correct postion. If you can rebuild a carbuerator then you should be able to do it yourself- but if there is any doubt... send it out.

its value depends....

I got a te60 not to long ago with the same problem... I payed 250 bucks for it. just depends on who you are selling too....

I would imagine you could get 300 for it.

Sounds like an oil return problem not a seal problem.

"Sounds like an oil return problem not a seal problem." - what does this mean and how do you check for it ?

You remove the turbo and make sure the return line is clear and is a straight shot to the engine.

Try to clean the turbo area with some wrags and some brake clean.(do this after the car has been siting or is cold, try to get it as clean as possible. then after the brake clean has dryed, start the car and let it idle, just get out and watch and see where the oil starts coming out of. If the oil starts coming out from between the back plate and the bearing housing I would say it is internal. If it comes out between the bottom of the bearing housing and the drain line it may be a bad gasket or loose bolts.
Just my 2cents.
Good luck
