Can’t play DVDs on my computer.

I have 1 internal DVD drive and one external DVD-RW drive and I can’t get either one to play or even SEE the DVD. HELP

I use to be able to play DVDs on both of them.
I can still play any type of CDs in both of them.

What the heck went wrong?

BTW the DVDs play just fine in the DVD player and in my kids computers.

See if you still have a DVD decoder? Have you run a complete virus scan? Reason I ask is I had a virus wipe out a few programs 2 years ago and could not figure how the hell they went missing. Try this....

1. Open XP's "Help and Support"
2. Type DVD in the search box, hit enter.
3. Click on "DVD Troubleshooter".
4. You might need a new DVD decoder.

I have a system builders version of XPHome. I couldn't play DVDs either.

I just DL'ed CCCP. It's a pack of codecs, it has one for DVD and just about any other media file type.
I've heard of VLC, but never used it.

i have just about looked under every help topic that XP has.
it did give me a to look for a decoder i just thought i had one since it was working before.
Could starting up in a selective start up be the problem?

i found it on the web, but do you have a link to a secure site?

OK guys this sucks

i downloaded CCCP pack and nothing.

So i looked for the OE cds that came with the Computer and found and installed "Power DVD" which is a DVD play back software. And it still doesn't work:mad::mad:

So then i looked for, found and installed the OE disc for my external DVD drive which has "Roxio DVDMAX" and the drivers for that specific DVD drive and still nothing.:mad::mad:

on both my DVD players- When i try to play a DVD its says "Please enter a disk into drive H" or which ever drive i am trying at the time.
to make sure that the drives are being seeing by the computer i again put in several deferent CDs and they all worked.
HELP

you might try VLC Player VLC media player for Windows and DL from one of the mirror sites. Since your running XP....and I'm just throwing it out their, is let one of PC guru's do a remote desktop to look things over.

As was said in a earlier post, have you done a virus scan? It can do wierd things like that.

Steve

now that i have donated $16.00 to a millionair company like Roxio and still have the same problem.
Does any one have some FREE help to offer.

Unable to play DVD on PC:

You might try disconnecting/removing the DVD drive from(both cables) tower, reboot system without it connected, go to control panel, click on system hardware and verify that it does not show up and if it does remove it via tab, then shutdown and reconnect it and reboot, when Windows starts and goes to desktop, give it a few seconds and it will notify that it's "found new hardware", it will install some generic drivers from Windows by itself, then try it.
Also, if you take the drive out of tower, write down it's model information, you might need to go to manufactors website for updated drivers or BIOS flash, simple to do, just follow their instructions.

Kevin.
