hello people; Could someone explain how (car fax) works? And is there a way to beat it? Also how long has it been around?

I think the car faxes can go back too 1981.

Too me they seem a bit inaccurate on the way they report.

There is a broad range of items that pop up making cars look worse than they are.

I honestly never used them PRIOR to buying. I prefer the method of going to look at the car & driving it. JUST LIKE THE OLD DAYS.

Use AutoCheck instead. Either way, it doesn't give the whole story about any car, just a piece of the puzzle...good way to find out about title issues and past damage that may not be apparent. But like credit reports, they can "over-report" and make a car look bad unfairly. Don't take it as gospel, especially if you like a car otherwise. But if there are issues on the report, expect to hear about them again from buyers when you sell the car down the road.

hello people; I haven't bought a car in years as and I'am going to have to get one sooner or later. I have never bought a new car and maybe I will this time but I would just shop around usually in the defunked (Wantadvertiser) and make a deal. But a co worker had a story about looking at a used car and when she mentioned the car fax the salesmen went and got his superviser and he basically started dancing around the subject. A flag went up in her head and she made some excuse to leave. But all things on cars can't be on record so I guess only if something is really reworked it's on the Fax. So it can be tricked by not putting it on the puter.

From what I understand, Carfax/Autocheck draw their data from public records and such, which would include all DMV records, damage claims, reported accidents, and so on. Once could definitely have damaged a car and paid cash to have it repaired, avoiding getting it flagged on the report. But history reports are a decent way of getting an idea of where the vehicle has been in its life, what kind of use its gotten, and any legal or title issues that might appear. Just one tool in your arsenal.

As for buying a car, I recently gave up shopping for a DD at dealerships out of pure disgust...car salespeople are either annoying or downright shady! What was excitement about buying a new car turned into frustration, and I ended up taking over payments on a car from someone I knew, which was much easier and made better financial sense for me.

I didn't use this service, but I discovered it recently, and thought it was worth looking into if you're looking for a new ride. Its an online marketplace where you can take over other people's leases that they are trying to get out of. Great way to get a nice car with no money down if your credit is up to par.

Good luck with the wolf packs at the dealerships...
