OK my car is definatly burning alot of oil. It pours out of the the rear passenger side hood opening(near windshield wiper) but it appears only to do it when I turn the car off. And if i look under the car i can see oil dripping off of the crossover pipe. There was also a good amount of oil on the rear of the block, if i looked where the tranny tube goes down I seen it. another wierd thing is that I'm not losing any oil, i check the dip tube all the time and its the same. My guess would be the oil return line for the turbo. After I put my car back together is when it started. It took about 90 min alone just to install the turbo and Im almost certain the drain tube is in good, but I ordered a new grommet and when it gets here I'm going to try again but does anyone think it may be something else? thanks, Steve

Had similar problems. My case turned out to be the valve cover gasket, that lower back bolt that you can barely access. Just for the sake of asking is the drain tube itself dry? Might want to look at the gasket at the turbo. Worse com eto worse you can get a flourescent dye from GM to put in the oil and then trace it with a black-light.

oil loss

Had the same experience and it was the turbo oil line, it had a pin hole or it could be a bit loose. It is worth checking it out before you take the turbo off again. Just a thought.

funny you mention the turbo oil line....when re-assembling my car I actually forgot to tighten that up and I started the car walked around to the engine and saw oil pouring out of the line. I quickly shut the car off and tightened it up and it does not leak but that is the reason I never looked into the smoke problem, I just figured it had a whole lot of oil to burn off but its been prolly 200 miles and still smoking more than before actually.....I'll have to check the valve cover gasket too. thanks for the ideas, Steve

Ive got the same problem.

My oil comes from the inspection cover on the tranny. Right where the converter and flywheel is. The inspection cover has a small hole in it and it drips from there.

It would seem to indicate a rear main seal - but mine is new.

I cleaned it all off the engine and insp. cover with a rag and now I have to put her back up on the ramps to see again where its leaking to confirm my suspicions.

My trubo ret. line area was dry.

Other than rear main seal and turbo oil return line, only other possible sources would be rear of intake and valve covers. I would start there. Unless something really weird is going on:eek:
