Do you guys think the mileage reported on this carfax is accurate, as far as the car only having 22K original miles, considering the fact that no mileage was reported until 2001.

Carfax is just a tool, not the proven truth when it comes to mileage. I just bought a 55k mile GN and carfax said POSSIBLE ODOMETER FRAUD. Then when I looked at the title sequence it got incorrectly labeled 145 something 6 months before it sold in an IRS auction. Some lube tech can mess up and put in a different number and throw off the report too so take it with a grain of salt.

Otherwise, if Carfax doesn't disprove the mileage, and the car is indicative of a 22k miles example it might be accurate. Check for obvious things like brake pedal wear, interior conditon etc.. Exterior conditon and engine compartment condition can vary depending on how it was stored. Whats the price?

The interior was in mint condition, however, the engine compartment could have used a cleaning as some of the parts showed their age (little surface rust along the radiator support). The only mods were a 3" dp, breathers, adjustable wastegate, FPR, fuel pump, and chip(stock one got lost somewhere along the way). The car ran strong, didn't blow any smoke, and didn't have any leaks, but then again I've test driven only three of these cars as of late, newbie. The car had been repainted a year ago and was not a stellar job, but the body showed no signs of rust. The undercarriage was clean, however, it did have undercoating applied at one time or another. The only two apparent faults with the car was an inoperable power antenna which the guy said he had to disconnect b/c it kept draining the battery, and the brake light kept coming on everytime I hit the pedal but would then go off. The car is a loaded T-Top car for $14,500. Like you said I guess it depends on how the car was stored b/c I expected the engine and compartment to be cleaner. Maybe I'm just being to picky.

Not too steller repaint on a 22k mile car, brake light coming on probably is signaling you're going to need some powermaster work maybe the motor, and undercarrage can hide a lot. If the car is nice I'd still pursue it but try to use some of that to knock some off the 14,500.

You know, most people probably won't let you pull the carpet, but you can remove the back seat very easily and check under there for rust. Just another thing to check...

Mines a 53k original mile car and the inspector one year put down 143k when it really had 43k miles just due to the age he assumed it had been rolled over...luckily I was standing right beside him as he entered it in and corrected him.
If the car really only has 22k, then it was never a daily driver, and probably was not driven in the rain much if any at all, check underneath of obvisious signs such as dirt and mud and grease caked up on places that would not normally build up in just 22k miles time...like around the front end and wheel well and axle areas. If you find a thick caking of grease all over the tops of the rear axle...then most likely not 22k miles. If its clean, that doesn't necessarily mean it is 22k miles either, could have just been cared for real well or steam cleaned.
I would think must rust under the hood would indicate the mileage is not correct.....if you don't drive a car but 22k miles in 18 years...why would you leave it sitting outside to get rust build up...if someone cared about the mileage and didn't drive it, seems like you wouldn't leave it sitting out in the elements...mine has zero rust at 53k miles and has always been garaged.

Another thing to look at is the emergency brake cable where it rubs the frame and rear end...look for wear on the cable housing where it rests against the frame and stuff....driving vibration will wear the outer coat down the the metal casing....another sign of higher mileage.

I think all of your comments hit the mark. I guess that's why I was a little skeptical about the car considering the fax and the actual condition. I think I'm still going to throw the guy an offer and see what happens. Hey 2Quick6, I remember seeing your car at the XBASH and it was clean clean clean. Nice car!
