Caspers is having a sale on their Blk/BLk knock gauge. I am thinking about getting one. For those of you that have it, how do you like it? How hard is it to install?

TIA

If it is the one with the little lights it is pretty simple to install. Power, GND, and knock sensor are the only three hook ups. It works pretty good, but it really doesn't get your attention unless it is right in front of your face. Mine being in my center console doesn't help, but maby with differnet mounting.

That would probably be your best bet. I was thinking about that to. Right next to the boos gauge.

Where does the knock part wire into?

Also, how has it worked for you?

I love mine. It's right under the boost gauge on the pillar. It's nice to see the amount of knock when you are on the big end leaning it up.

All you do is tap into the knock sensor wire that runs to the ECM. It's at B-7.

Check out this link for the installation instructions:

Get a Scanmaster. It gives you a digital readout of KR, instead of a bunch of pretty lights that no one seems to be able to say for sure how many lights = how much knock. It also gives you O2's, TPS, BLM, INT and lots more.

Sure it's more money, but 1 motor rebuild pays for lots of instrumentation...

Also, I have a Direct Scan and a EGT. I was thinking of getting the knock gauge for the days I don't use the Direct Scan.

That's the similar setup that I use. On my car the first yellow light is usually between 1 and 2 degrees of knock but you'll have to see how yours relates on your car. Just have to remember the lights are displaying filtered knock counts and not degrees of knock so the lights can mean different amounts of knock based on frequency and severity of knock the engine sees but it works well for me when the tune is right to ignore the greens and lift on the yellows and tune for no yellows.

Something that will show you immediate knock is a must have in my book because reviewing Directscan or Turbolink after the fact does no good.

The price of that gauge is cheap considering the life of your engine and what it shows you.

I speak from experience, having found the gauge to be much less informative and therefore trustworthy than SM. As you wish...

I know where you are coming from with the SM. I could get a used SM for $180-$200. But wouldn't the knock gauge respond faster than the ALDL because the gauge gets its information direct from the ECM?

just find the wire from the knock sensor as it goes into the ecm, solder or just get one of those parallel crimp connectors and there you go.... instant knock gauge.

very bright and distracting in the a pillar spot, unless you are blind.

Sweet6,
Whats the sale price on the gauge I don't see any specials on there website? I need to get a friend to buy one if he ever gets his GN running but that just means more work for me as I'm going to end up being chief mech. on it. He's having too much fun showing his new ZL1 Camaro at the moment 427 made 513 to the wheels on a general safe tune and a terrible air day.

TIA

Sweet,

I don't know the answer to your question. I can tell you that I switched from Casper's knock gauge to a SM in my GN and don't know how I lived without the SM for so long. Now I know exactly what my KR is, as well as my O2s and a bunch of other stuff. I will never be w/o a SM again - great product - super useful w/ no unnecessary gingerbread - can't say enuf about it...

I've used the Knck Guage under my Boost on pillar. For about 6Years.Probably longer.Love it.Mainly because I use the yellow light as my knock look out.

Also use T'Link. But day to day can't beat it.

I like the SM in the car for daily driving, I also have an audible knock dector. I did have the variable lights one, but found it to be a distraction and it just seemed to add to gauge clutter.
