Catalytic Converter?

I was wondering what you guys suggest about installing a cat in my 87gn as I need to register the car in California and is a pain. When I purchased my GN it had straight piping no cat. If I installed the cat will the car run the same or slower what effect would it have?

i run a 3 inch hi flow cat doesnt hurt performance to much

Um....put the cat in, pass inspection, remove cat.
