I just ran into my first Chinese Billet wheel.

It was a 60-1 wheel to be exact.

very very nice piece.

but almost impossible to balance.

this was found in unknown rebuilt TA60 that had trashed the seals upon fire up due to bad balancing.

I wont list who did the rebuild as im not 100% sure the customer is telling me the whole story.

just a word of caution... they are out, becareful on a NON-NAME BRAND rebuild companys.

Very nice piece but impossible to balance? Not a nice piece imo. Out of balance wont ruin seals either. Maybe the turbine shaft was bent.

well it sounded like a phone ringer as soon as it came to spool and shook the engine compartment. Ive never experianced such a thing before.

it might be a bad shaft... I hadnt considered it might be a knock off turbine as well.... but it refuses to balance.

were using an older T/T Mk2 VSR unit to balance, so I dont know if were doing something wrong, or the guts of the TA 60 were just s hit. I will get back to you on the shaft idea.

Thanks Brian.

Turbine is probably a piece of crap too. If there is slop in the ex side journal bearing the shaft will wobble and it will usually take out the compressor backing plate too. Ive seen a lot of chit center housings that were out of spec.

totally right.

we stopped messing with it, and loaded a new catridge with new garret guts.

everything went fine from there.

like Grumpy said, ya get what ya pay for.
