Hey guys..I'm gonna be doing alittle experiment and I was just wondering if there's any special technique to changing chips or do you just simply take out and plug in?
Do you have to do anything special when you start it with the new chip or anything?
Thanks.

don't know if this is a correct way but here's what i do when changing chips

i first disconnect the orange ecm wire under the hood...then i pull out the current chip and replace it with the new chip....i plug the orange wire back together and then i key the car on for like 10 seconds but don't start it...then i start it and the car will run like **** for a while...i make a trip around the block letting the computer learn how to drive again and then i shut the car off...i then start the car again and it should run fine...

Depends on how radical a chip change you're making. If your changing chip manufacturers, then resetting the ECM by unplugging the orange wire near the battery(ECM power), might be prudent.

If it's just a chip upgrade (same manufacturer), then you don't really have to reset the ECM, and can leave the orange wire alone.

CAUTION: DO NOT have the ignition key turned on when making a chip change. Best thing to do is remove the key from the ignition to be safe.

Turn the new chip upside down and make certain that all the pins are straight. Plug it in carefully - a bent pin or pins is a recipe for problems.

The chip only goes in one way - look at it and the socket before you try to force the issue.

:D

You're definitely right but I know of a character that's changed them on-the-fly, trucking down the road; with the assistance of a co-pilot of course. :p

Dont ask me how I know this, but if you park on the side of the road and forget to shut off the ignition and change while the engine is idling, it will probably stall:D

What do you mean by that??
Grab and hold a steel part of the car, then grab the case that holds the computer before you touch the chip or computer internals. Hold the case with your other hand while touching the chip/internals. This will release any static electricity that you may have and reduce the risk of causing damage due to static electricity.

Around/behind the ashtray is good. You know how you sometimes get zapped in the winter when you get in? Well I change the chip by kneeling on the ground (passenger side) and make contact with the car be leaning on it and maintain skin contact during the swap.

I just switched from the street lethal to (what I believe to be) the stock chip..I wanna see if this helps my gas mileage at all..we'll see..
