Here's an update... I pulled the VB out and found out it's NOT a BRF. I don't know how I missed it the first time, but there was only one pressure switch and three wires. Anyways, I installed my pld BRF VB along with my old Gov. There was two check balls missing from tyhe stock set-up. The TV exhaust and 4th accum.
I installed them all(8, excluding the capsule one), with a BM trans pack. The directions say (some trans come with the 3-4 accum spring sbove the piston, you should intall the spring as shown) which is under the accum piston. So I did that, pulled the 3-4 piston out of the cover, flipped it over,so the spring seat was facing the spring, and installed the spring. That created much more spring tension when trying to install the accum housing. Is this right??

So..... I go for the test drive, and at first no 3rd gear. WOT is good, hard shifts and all gears. Crusing 1st to 2nd, kind of soft, and no 3rd till around 45 MPH.

Did Press test, and looks very funky!!!!

Any suggestions???? Getting ready to tear it apart again tomorrow.

It's early but the only two thing I can see off the top of my head is B&M tells you to put the 3-4 acum piston in the wrong postion in their instuctions, I don't know if it's by accident or design but the piston should go into the case first, then spring then plate. try searching this one on here it has been covered quite a bit. Also leave the tv exhaust check ball out and drill the tv balance hole in the plate to .045" and see what happens. Did you mess with the pr system? if so maybe double check for proper installation. :D

Ok, I'll replace the 3-4 assem. back to the original way, remove the TV exhaust ball, and drill balance hole to .45
I did take apart the PR system, I wanted to see how it worked. Maybe I put it back in wrong. I'll do a search .

Thanks for all your help, and wish me luck!!:D

Turned 3-4 piston around, checked PR for binding, left out TV checkball and checked the balance hole, it was already drilled. Put back together and it has all gears and feels like my old GN trans !!! I would like to get a firmer 1st to 2nd though. How would I do that? I adjusted the TV both ways, and still not firm, 3 to 4 is firm though, I'll do a search also.

Thanks again!!!!

COOL!!! for firmer 1-2 try a billet super servo and adjustable pin, wider band would be nice too if you want to go into the tranny, and/or stiffer 1-2 accum. spring or shim it more or plug it off altogether. :D

Can you change the 1-2 servo with the trans in place?
Yes indeedy, it's called the intermediate servo and can be changed w/tranny in place, as long as you can get it by the exhaust. I would recommend PTS's as he is the only one I know that has an adjustable pin which is crucial to letting you be able to ajust it to near perfect.

THe BM kit comes with a spacer for the 1-2 accum. I installed that. What do you mean by plug it altogether?

TIA

Paul

You can add more shims, or Bruce sells a stiffer spring or plug the feed orifice and eliminate 1-2 accumulation altogether, not recommended by some. the whys and hows have been covered on here.

I'll do a search on 1-2 accum. I ordered the PR and shift kit last night. I think I'll replace the servo with my GN one and see if that gets 1-2 a little firmer.

Thanks again,

Paul

Here's an update. I installed Bruces PR and shift kit. Very nice products. I couldn't believe the difference in size of the PR versus the stock one. Well, put it in, and same thing, firm shifts WOT and very light throttle. Soft shifts on 1/4 throttle.(only 1-2 and 2-3 was firm on all tests)
Looked at the servo, and there was the problem. The inner servo was about 1/2 inch smaller that the outer with no o-ring. It should act like a piston in the outer servo.Kind of hard with a 1/4 inch gap all around. I installed my old BRF servo assem. and there it was. That neck snappin shift!!!!! I don't know if Jimmy's has a theory behind this method or maybe just a mix-up.

I would like to thank Bruce and Mark for all their help. Bruce actually took the time to come to the phone and talkwith me.

I guess you'll be getting my money for a rebuild a little later now.;)

Thanks guys and much mahalo's(thanks):D
