I was thinking of donating a portion of my eBay sales to different charities. Not quite a solid decision yet, but kicking it around. eBay makes it easy by collecting and forwarding. I am leaning towards support for Veterans, Diabetes,Cancer and\or Heart Disease. I have plenty of different items, so I can do several. There are over four thousand registered with eBay. I was wondering what some of you would be inclined to support or think are worthwhile.

St. Jude would be my choice. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
It's a very reputable organization. I guess if I live to 60, 70, 80 or whatever and develop Cancer I could cope with that since the best years are behind me. But as a child it's just the opposite. His/her best years are ahead of them.

You can donate a portion or all of your sales starting at 10% to a specific charity through eBay. It's an option that you can set up. They put up a little blurb on your item description saying what percentage goes to a particular charity. St Jude sounds like a good choice.Thanks for the input.

My other thought was this. Maybe you could just personally set aside X amount from every sale and donate it to the Salvation Army, or Toys for Tots during the Christmas season. Giving to charity seems to have a much bigger impact during the holidays.

Speaking of charity, a few days ago, I gave some money to the Canadian Red Cross to help the people in Haiti...I think they're the ones who need the most help at the moment...:frown:

Thank you for the replies gents. I have already donated to the Red Cross in their efforts in Haiti this week and I do give to many charities throughout the year. This eBay thing is seperate and something that is easy to set up. With 21 items in my store and more coming, I can help several on an ongoing basis. My idea is to support organizations that somehow are related to that item. Not sure how that will work out, but I can see some connections. I see many good causes out there.
Donating to a charity is definately a laudible endeavor. And a great idea no matter the charith you choose. However, with that said, I doubt I would choose to donate via/through ebay. I'd be willing to bet that they're going to take their "administrative cut" from the doations.
Charity themselves have administrative costs to deal with and a part of every donation goes there. Having ebay take a cut would be a double dip.

Yeah, if you are going to give hard earned money away to anyone, let it be to St Judes. All you have to do is visit that place once and it will change your life. Those kids are the bravest, strongest examples of all human life. How they can manage to put a smile on their face in light of their situation is beyond me. They are doing wonderful work there and deserve any bit of help they can get. Towards the end of my fathers life he began giving all his donations to St. Jude, I asked him why once. He repied after all these years fighting cancer, I still can't imagine how a child does it.
