Looking for a cheap non-l/u converter that stalls at least 2700rpm. i have a non-lu trans that i want to try in the car but don't want to put a ton of $$ in a converter if the trans is fried. (been sitting 8+ years in the garage).

I have an Art Carr 9" non lockup, that stalls a little bit higher than 3,000 rpm (depending on how much your engine makes) but I don't know what's the price range you're willing to pay... You said "cheap"...but what does "cheap": means for you?...

Claude.

I would have to say it depends. Which Art Carr is it from? how much above 3K does it stall behind a stock displacement TR? My old 9x11 is 2600 and the 6262 DBB spools like mad. I know there was quality issues at times when AC moved. I was hoping to keep it under $300 as I don't know if the trans will even work.

It is an "original" Art Carr converter (before he sold and moved else where). As far as saying how high it will stall behind a stock motor, it's hard for me to say because my car isn't stock and I started rather early modifying it, so it hasn't been stock for very long! The only thing I remember is that it went as high as 3,400 back when I was running mid 10's. I'm pretty sure that it would stall much lower behind a stock motor. About the price, I'm sorry, but I can't really go below $500....
