I read the posts on "how to" install new rocker buttons. After chasing the shaft around the bench, I said, "screw this.."
I decided to make a cheap tool to use as a fixture to install them w/o breaking them.
Here are a couple pics of the tool.
Made from a scrap of 1 x 1" angle, 2 scraps of 1/8" flat stock, and a 5/16" bolt.
The 2 scraps are 2 5/8" apart, w/ the hole at mid point.
The scraps are tacked on as shown, and the hole marked and drilled.
W/ the hole drilled, put the bolt thru and lock the shaft down, before welding the bolt from the underside. {This keeps the bolt straight.}
The other side of the angle is then clamped in the vice, the 2 rockers are slid on. The 1/8" scraps keep the rockers off of the angle surface, and free to move some.
Instead of using hot water, I gripped the buttons w/ a needle nose, and heated them w/ the hair dryer I use for shrink tube. Doesn't take a lot of heat!!
Set the button into the hole, and drive it in w/ a flat end punch..
And, all along you perverts thot I was posting something from Earl Brown!!:bucktooth::p
