Checked paint

Hi all. I just bought an 86 GN. The original paint on the hood has some checking and blemishes. It will have to wait at least a couple years for a new paint job. What is the best way to minimize the appearance of the checking until then? What are the best products for washing & waxing original paint?
Thanks.

Rather than be unhappy with it for a couple years, have the hood repainted. Arrange something with someone. Take the hood off, chemically strip the hood your self and carry it to a painter. Let him shoot three or four coats of black enamel on it. How much could he charge? I'd shoot it for $75-$100 and be thrilled for the easy money.
