I vote for chain. Of course "gear drive" is when the cam gear and the crank mesh with each other and produce that blower like whine that some love.
 
I would vote gear drive, I like the sound.

I think they also last more mileage with less wear.

I wouldnt use one on any newer engine with a knock retard sensor though ... they cause problems with the noise they make ---
 
I have a jesel belt drive on my SBC. These are the best because you can adjust the cam without having to pull the cover. A gear drive will get annoying and make you wish you actually had a blower. Most racecars upgrade to belt drive

LOL, I do have a blower with my gear drive ... so I get your point.

How long do the belts on the belt drives last? Thats my priority ---
