Childs play...literally

My daughter came home from school with this math problem:

Mr Rogers and Mrs Rogers wrote a list of chores for Amelia Bedilia. There were a total of 26 chores. Mr Rogers wrote 5 more chores than Mrs Rogers. How many chores did each of them write Amelia Bedilia?

This problem is making me CRAZYYYYYYY..... gimme an answer oh math gods....... it just dont make sense!! I say 11/15, but thats not really 5 more...or is it????

I believe using Non-Euclidian geometry you could define a set of axioms whereby the problem could be solved more easily.

But it's probably a typo.

11 - 15 is only a difference of 4...holy crap...I'm not sure that's possible....

Here's a probable answer (from my daughter)
x+(5+X) = 26

I didn't pull out my calculator, so maybe I'm wrong, but 11 from 15 is 4. Original problem said 5 more, not 4. What was that about showing hiugh skewl edjukashun

zam's daughter is correct

x + y = 26
x = y + 5

y + 5 + y + 26
2y + 5 = 26
2y = 31
y = 15.5
x = 10.5

Well, I split 26, and went up/down on each 1/2 till I got 26. I got the same 10.5/15.5 but what is 1/2 a chore? I'll tell my daughter to put it down, but it dont make sense.

One of the chores that they each wrote was the same thing so they actually wrote 27 chores but only 26 different ones

Thats what I would put down.

Why are the Rogers writing chores for the Bedilia's kid??? Is she kidnapped and being held for ransom?

Notice it doesn't say exactly 5 more chores.

Answer could be as follows:

Either:

25 and 1
24 and 2
23 and 3
22 and 4
21 and 5
20 and 6
19 and 7
18 and 8
17 and 9
16 and 10

In all cases Mr. Rogers wrote 5 more than Mrs. Rogers.

Much more creative than the half a chore deal.
