If the 85 has the 87 ecm swap done...Yes...

Chip / Module

FJM568 can you please explain the whys and wherefors for everyone considering a change? Thanks.

The main reason for a lot of people doing the 87 ecm swap into the 84/5 cars is for more infomation is available on scan tools...That, and there are more chips available for the 86/7 ecms and more people know how to program them than they do for the 84/5 chips...

If you buy the parts for the swap from the right places, you can do the swap for under $75...Best upgrade you could probably ever do to your 84/5 GN/TR for the money...

Unplug your 84/5 ecm, run the MAT upgrade harness(solder one wire, plug in one wire) from Casper's(~$25), plug in the 86/7 ecm, swap the Calpak chip(small one) from the 84/5 ecm to the 86/7 ecm, put the new 86/7 chip in and drive away...

If you have everything ready, the swap can be done in under an hour...Sounds harder than I explained...

Forget what was said in the article about stripping the wiring harness from the donor car...Casper's offers the MAT harness for about $25, Casper's also has the MAT sensor as well, don't remember how much...I've bought 86/7 ecm's from the local u-pull-it for about $25 as well...
