Apologize in advance if this isn't "tech"....

Has anyone rechromed their GN wheels? Was it ridiculously expensive?

rechroming gn whells

When I still had my gn it was important to have all original. I had to pay shipping to southern cali to a shop out there. 28lbs. per wheel.112lbs. total then the size of the box & shipping costed about $175.00. When they got to the shop I was informed to get the chrome to flash right in the deep dish they had to machine apart the inner from the outer ring. For $100.00 per wheel they would pull apart, dip, reweld, balance them. For an extra $150.00 they ordered new rings & just rechromed the centers & attached everything back. $550.00 parts & labor, $350.00 shipping. I could not find anyone on the coast of florida that would do them. The way I went about it was I bought a couple lowrider magazines called a few of the shop in the advertisement section & got to work. They also offered to increase the width when they ordered the new rings. Also when you tell them turbo regal,gn,whatever they go crazy. Those guys love regals to mod, rims, paint etc. goodluck!

I had my rear wheels widened by that place in Colorodo quite a few years ago. Glad I did because the price went haywire after that.

I'd like to rechrome my stock wheels but it may be cheaper to find another set.

Thanks!

You've really got to love those GN wheels to throw that kind of money at them when you can get a set of alloys that are better in every way for less money:

1. Heaviest wheel ever made
2. Lousy chrome job (OEM)
3. Paint won't adhere to chrome, flakes off (OEM)
4. Center caps fall off, or get stolen, or get bent up at their bases, or crack, or weather
5. Cheap azz, two piece lug nuts (OEM)

I have to agree with strikeeagle.

The only reason I widened my stockers was they were in excellent condition, I wanted to run wider tires but remain with the stock look (I wasn't racing), I had a 2nd set, and the cost was not bad at the time. I think I did my wheels for less than $90.

I want to repaint my car and basically restore it back to excellent condition over the next 2 years, so stock rims are a must. I didn't want to pay (let's say) $800 for a set of stockers and wondered if it was better to rechrome them.

My OEM wheels and tires are in the basement, with about 3K miles on them, where they shall remain until I sell the car or die. Yes, I like the OEM look too, but I just tell myself Radial T/As, Convo Pros and McGards were little known options on these cars...

:D

Like Srikeeagle.I have a new set in boxes.Using Enkies,
on 16 inch rims.Buying 2 more.To have redone.

My GN has 4,509 Org mi. So it's a stocker.

My limited is the car that will rock.Just out of body shop.
Amazing.............Anyway I agree. Worth keeping or re-doing.

Brian is the best to deal with..............Rob;)
