I just got thru with a major rebuild. My trunk release isn't working. And my VSS is coding. Are these related? Maybe a fuse?

Anybody know where I can download a schematic of all the wiring?

thanks,chris

The trunk release is a simple powered switch in the glove box.

Key on test, after checking the A/C fuse which powers it, orange wire at the switch should have +12 on it to a good ground using a test light or meter.

Out of the switch when pushed should also be +12 on the black wire.

It usually breaks at the bend point right at the drivers side trunk hinge.

Thick plastic coated wire.

If you have power at the switch and out of it, check that area of the trunk, usually a visual or a feel of the plastic cover will tell you where the break is.

Black wire at the trunk release solenoid is the +12 feed, the body is grounded to the trunk via the mounting bolts.

Thanks, I'll check it tonight.

Part 2: My speedo was working before the engine swap. It's not now. I removed the cruise control, but I didn't mess with the speedo cable. Any thoughts?

thanks,chris

Does the odometer work?

If not it still could be a cable issue.

Is it an analog or digital dash?

If the speedometer and odometer do not work it indicates a mechanical cable problem most likely not a VSS problem just yet.

It's most likely coding since it isn't spinning at all from the speedometer not working at all due to the mechanical cable issue.

I'd look down at the tranny and cable and check it along it's length to see if it got damaged during the engine removal or installation.

It also separates in two at the powermaster area maybe it was disassembled there and not hooked back up.

Found the problem. Broken speedo gear. The one that slides into the cable...not the one in the tail housing. I have a th350 and bought a new gear to correct mph about a year ago and never installed it. ( 90% leak down on #2 led to a rebuild, so I never got around to it until now).

Now my question. The new gear that goes in the speedo cable is about an inch shorter than the stocker. And I can barely feel resistence, if any at all, when I slide the gear in and turn it.

Should this gear be as long as the stocker to work?

Is the cable itself free enough that I wouldn't really "feel" it turning by hand?

thanks

You need the proper length gear and yes you should feel some resistance when you turn it.

I talked to Chris @ ckperformance , he said I need to change the housing the gear sits in ( I run a th350 ). He sold me the gear originally. And a new housing as of a few minutes ago when we got off of the phone:p I'll post results.
