should i try and bring everything down to bare metal or can i por 15 over the factory coating? i tried to sodablast it today and it wont cut through the factory coating, so i wirewheeled for 4 hours and got front pass pan clean and por 15 over it, just not sure if i wasted my time and i should have just painted over the factory coating with the exception of wire wheeling the rust spots.

Think you made the right move. When I contacted POR they claimed that the finish must be applied to rusty, seasoned metal no factory paint/coatings or grease.I've used it in the past on frames with good results.Currently I'll be applying it over the Roof area where I made the repairs on the T roof which led the same question that you have ,I asked them cause I had some spots where factory paint was still there.Dunno what happens if you apply it over paint but have heard that it will eventually flake off in sheets.

It will flake off of clean/bare metal, painted metal.
I used it 1 time.. enuf for me. I applied it to BARE, clean, rusted metal on my 55. Came off in big sheets....

i haved not used the por15 stuff. but when i redid the interior of my gn. I used undercoating about 5 cans of it at least to help protect the floor pans as there was some rust along the seams where the floor baces and other stuff was joined together.

Just scuff with scotchbright pad, thoroughly clean and paint. I used the POR15 Kit and it worked out awesome!
