There is a thread in the stage II area that got me to thinking. Someone was asking about K&N filters collapsing and that their filter had that "previously collapsed" look. And I noticed mine was the same way. I put a brand new K&N 9" cone on my car with the last rebuild (85 miles ago now). Soon after I noticed that the "ridges" of the filter were curvy in the middle all of a sudden. I didn't think anything of it really since my last filter did this too (but I thought the last filter did it due to the A/C lines running over it, but the lines are gone now). Does this mean the filter is collapsing? With my mods I'm sucking A LOT of air so it probably is. :( Has anyone figured out a way to stop the collapsing or to see if it is actually collapsing or something else causing this? A collapsing filter would explain some problems with tuning the car.

Thanks,
Derrick

Your mods are beyond the 9" stage. You need to look into a 14incher or something
You could test the theory by bending up a coathanger and slithering it in to keep the filter from collapsing.

I would think if it was collapsed you would get rich real quick

This is starting to make even more sense now. I build boost REAL fast up to ~5 lbs then real slow above that. I bet it's the damn filter collapsing. And yes, at high boost, I get big clouds of dark grey/black smoke (rich). Damn...

Anyone else experiencing this???? Anyone else getting the "curvey" K&N ridges after use?
