Hey fellow TR enthusiasts, my wife and I will be in Oahu next month from the 19th-26th. Anyone else on Oahu have any good recommendations for things to do, eat etc? Things we definitely want to do are helicopter ride to various islands, parasail, go to Pearl Harbor and Diamond Head, boat ride to whale watch if not too rough(wife gets motion sickness sometimes) and maybe surf, or waterskiing if I can find a slalom course, and any good dance clubs.
Any other ideas and maybe even a Buick event that weekend?
Or hookups for any of the above activities if you have any friends that work with tours etc doing any of the above?
Thanks

Only recommendation concerning Pearl Harbor is don't get confused like all the other tourist. Pearl Harbor is actually JUST the Navy base here. So, when you see signs for Pearl Harbor on the highway, don't take it unless you are attached to the military. Or you will become one of the hundreds of tourists that hold up the line getting into the base because they have to turn around. The Arizona memorial and the other WWII sites are actually off the base in Pearl City. Just trying to save an embarrassing moment.

Also, I would hit the polynesian cultural center for their luau and other things. Go see the Dole Plantation. In other words things OUTSIDE of Wiakiki. Oh, and don't forget the track some Friday or Saturday evening. ;)

what is your age? There is Ocean's around 23 to 35. Rumor's 23 to about 40's, Pipeline 23 to 40. Those are dance clubs. There are sports bars too, depends what interests you.

There are no Buick events here.... that's why we have to make our own:D

I'm 34. We're just wanting some good places to go have a drink in the evenings. I'll look them up and find a couple.
Thanks for the tip on Pearl Harbor, usually I just pick up a map and take off driving, so I would have been one to drive down there and hold people up not knowing it was still an active base there.

When whale watching, try the ship called the Navatek. It's probably the smoothest riding boat around. Also try a Luau at the Polynesean Cultral Center or, Paradise Cove. You'll have a blast there. The Diamond Head hike is a good one too. Oh yah and before I forget, "Kaimakani Tours" is great for a helicopter tour.

Have you vacationed here before?

Do I need to book any of these in advance, like the boat, the Navatek, and do you have any contact info for it, or the luau's?
We're staying at the Mariott at Ko Olina, I believe it's just west of Pearl Harbor. I've been to Maui about 7 years ago for work for a week, my wife has never been there.

Any good tours that take you to other islands for a day or anything like that rather than just flying over things, although I want to do that too?
Any live rock music places, covers or original?

Really appreciate all the ideas everyone. This is our first real vacation in over 10 years, and thanks to almost 10 years of traveling for work, all we have to pay for is food, drinks and entertainment!
Thanks

Ko Olina is by Jemain's luau. A very nice hotel, and about 5 min. from the track.

I don't think you have to book the Navatek in advance, my girl friend will check, her friends daughter dances on the ship.

Thanks for all of the ideas, since we got 4" of snow today (the most we've had in 20 years) I've been surfing the net and found just about everything I need, got direct phone#'s for the Navatek, X-treme parasailing, and the Atlantis sub thing.

Only thing I have not found direct#s for are the helicoptor tours, and going to Maui for a day. I found these offerings via travel sites, but alot of those are a scam where they make you go to some presentation before going on your adventure, so I'm looking for direct#s to places offering the helicoptor and trip to Maui for a day which included a rental car in Maui.

Also, what's the drag strips address and which night is the best for street races if open every week? May just have to go out there on Fri or Sat night!

Try www.travelhawaii.com

I've used them before for 1 and 2 day excursions to other islands.

The dragstrip is in the Campell Industrial Park is is only about 10 minutes from Ko Olina. Take the Campell Ind Park cutoff off the H1 and go back over the Hwy. The dragstrip is a mile or two down the road on the left side. The signs are a little hard to see at night so you might roar right past it and then have to go back. :)

Have fun, and drink a few beers with the boys :D

Ya, you'll probably have to give them a call. They should be able to set you up with some sort of fly 'n drive package. Have fun. :)

Thanks for all of the suggestions, got everything scheduled we want to do, this is going to be a great trip. Hope to see ya'll out at the track this Friday night! Now, just 1 more day of work Wed, then its relax time!

Rob,

It was nice to meet you and your wife. I hope you guys enjoy the rest of your stay here in Hawaii. Hopefully it will warm up a bit while you guys are here. Take Care

John

Had a cool time talking with you Rob. I have to admit you did appear a bit tired obviously from the plane trip and time difference, very understandable that your wife was MIA in the car for most of the evening.:D

Have fun on your vacation here and I look forward to meeting up again sometime in the future.:)

It was a pleasure meeting everyone Friday night, I was very surprised at the number of TR folks to show up that night, TurboV6, Geoff87, TurboJohn, Kenne-Bill, Baddguy6, HvyMtlAnime, quicker6, and Charlie, thanks all, hope I didn't leave anyone out.
Yes, we were very tired, 2 hours to Chicago, then a 9 hour flight to Oahu, I was holding up fairly well, my wife said to tell everyone thanks and everyone was very nice and that she was sorry she couldn't stay awake any longer, she was crashed hard when I came knocking on the window of the car :) She usually enjoys going to the track alot and thought she'd make it.
We hiked up Diamond Head today and she's napping and I'm surfin the net.
Again thanks for the hospitality, warm welcome, and thanks for the welcome gift.
If any of you are in the Fort Worth, TX area, email me and we'll head out to the area tracks.

Rob- Nice meeting you and your wife on Friday. Hope to meet up with you again in the future. The next time you're in Hawaii we'll have a better turnout for sure, and hopefully it won't be as crowded. Hope you enjoyed your visit! :)

Hey Rob,

It was nice meeting you and your wife Friday. Sorry I didn't get to talk to you folks much.:( Was kind of busy trying to get into the 11s before Geoff.:D Hope you guys are having fun over here.:)
