The car developed an issue that it never had before, can I get some ideas on what may be causing it?

The car has been sitting since October but it still only gets driven about 7 miles a year, if at all.

Today I drove the car around and it went perfect. I came home and turned the car off then started it back up a few minutes later. It would barely run, blowing black smoke b/c it was running so rich and it sounded like it was running on 3 cylinders. If I tried to rev it up in the driveway it would chug really bad and would barely rev up at all blowing black smoke choking the entire neighborhood with gas fumes. It would almost die if I even put it in gear. Then I would unplug the orange wire to reset the ECM/chip and it would run perfect even while test beating it. I would then come home and turn the car off and restart it and it would do it all over again. In order to get it to run correctly I would have to unplug the orange wire again.
It's done it with two different chips so I know it's not the chip.

Any ideas?
Thnx
Kevin

I believe the orange wire at the battery keeps power to the ecm. That keeps your chip from resetting, may check for power at both ends or break in line!

Whats the scanmaster reading during all of this?
I was trying to use my Direct Scan but it kept giving me a "Hardware Malfunction" error (or something like that) so it wouldn't read anything which it's never done that before. Also, when I tried to plug DS into the cable while the car was running the car would die completely.

I should clarify that I would unplug the orange wire for a minute then plug it back in to "fix" the problem I was having but I would have to do this before I drove it again.

It might be caused by the direct scan connector being pushed to far onto the ECM circuit board. Try pulling the connector out a little next time. There was a trick where you could put part of a toothpick in the connector to prevent this but i don't know the details on how.

I already tried that and that didn't work. I even left the connector off the pcb to see if that would make a difference and it didn't.

Whose/what chip are you using?

So no scantool currently?

It did it two weeks ago when I had the ME 16 position but I didn't think anything of it then. Then I put in Erics TT chip with the alchy install and it still does it.

Currently I can't get my DS to work now and I have a feeling it's all related.. I never tried my Scanmaster.

Get the scanmaster hooked up and go through the screens to see if anything is out of whack. Like if the BL numbers went to 90 for example. The fact you reset and it clears up indicates an ecm issue. Or socket. maybe got wet. Check the two connectors on the ecm.

Possible you have a bad ecm. They do go bad.

I think I got it. The ribbon cable from the ECM to the Direct Scan box was cockeyed and when I replugged it into the DS box everything worked as it should.

Thnx everyone for looking.
