So I want to convert my column shift to a floor shift. I already have the shifter and linkage, will be buying a cable next and getting the factory floor brackets soon. Will I need to change the column or are they the same? What do I need to do to get rid of the shifter and the collar?
Thanks for the help in adavance.

floor shift

I am assuming you want to put in a factory type shifter? My Regal came w/ a column shift, and bench seat. I put in buckets and a center counsel along w/ a B&M megashifter that fits perfectly in the center counsel, hooked via cable. As far as the column goes, I removed the shifter, and the gear indicator pin, leaving the original column in, the RIGHT way to do it would be find a car w/ a floor shift column and replace yours, but it really doesnt stand out in my opinion when everything is all done, also my back up lights, and neutral safety are all operated through switches inside the Shifter, pretty nice setup, no factory crap to worry about. I Hope this helped you somewhat.

if you want some pics, e-mail me, mine are too large to post

hey i have a 86 regal and it has a column shifter that i want to convert to a floor shifter but i have no idea of how to do it
can you please explain to me how to do it

Im about to do the same thing its not that hard if you have the parts from another car and the both use the same setup for the neutral safety and reverse lights the bars that hook up at the trans and go up the firewall and hook to the steering column....thats why even on a floor shift car the column turns at the base near the dash when you move the shifter.......

Really isn't much difference between the 2 brands now. B&M owns Hurst now. The older Hurst shifters were made better than B&M. There're both probably made in China now. :(
Hurst no longer makes or stocks shifters for 4-speed Auto Trans.
B&M has the Mega, Hammer, Quick Silver & Street Bandit that work with 4-speed Auto.
Hurst's Promatic 2, #3838504 similar to B&M QuickSilver, & V-Matic 2, #3838521 similar to B&M's MegaShifter worked with 4-speed.

Look at the bottom of the site pages at the logos.
