I have read where if you hit press the brakes while rolling the tranny should bog down a bit. Mine does not. Is there anyway to tell for sure if the converter is or isn't locking up?

When you hit he brakes, your converter will unlock if you are going atleast the speed the chip was programmed for the converter to lock at. Your TT chip should lock the converter at 45mph or so. You should be able to feel and hear the rpms drop when it locks. Your tranny temps will soar on the fwy if your lock up is not working. Trust me I know! Mine didn't lock up and it was a mis-aligned break pedal switch. There was not 12v going to the trans. If you think your converter is not locking, then it probably isn't. It's very noticible on my car when it locks

at roughly 65mph on the freeway I'm turning close to 2500 rpm's... I did just install vacuum brakes and shortly after that is when I noticed the tranny/converter slipping or not locking up....Hmmm...maybe I will have a look at the pedal..

2500 rpms at 65mph seems high to me if you have stock-size 26" tires and a 3.42 gear. I used to run the 26" tire a long time ago and my rpms at 70mph were in the 2100-2200rpm range.

you can check for voltage at the tranny electical plug on the driver side and check the brake switch alignment on the brake peddle. When mine wasnt locking, I followed this guide.

I run a MT 275/60/15 ET Street. I will check it again on the freeway this morning and see exactly what it's turning. I thought it was a bit high as well.

I run the same size tire(28") and at 70mph I'm only at 1800-1850 rpms. Your converter is not locking if you have a 3.42 Gear. I would make sure your trans fluid is ok if you have been running this way for a while

Coming to work this morning I kept track of what the tranny was doing, so here is what I have..still think something is not working right:

Freeway 65mph= 2200rpm
Freeway 70mph= 2300rpm

From a stop:
1st gear 0-15mph
2nd gear 15-25mph
3rd gear 25-45

****I never hear the rpm's decrease after 45mph and 1600rpm's.****

===>I am only assuming I have 3.42 gears in the car, but I am going to check when I get home today.<====

Checked the gears and looks as if I have 3.42.

Checked the brake switch and it wasn't adjusted right after I put the vacuum brakes on, fixed that, took her out for a test ride and the converter is locking up. At 65 or so, I'm now running 1900-2000 rpms......Sweet!
