The lockup valve could also be sticking in the pump.
 
Check the aldl conector. May be shorted.

Before pulling the pan. Ck to see if there is a constant voltage. At the plug just one small step to maybe save time and a few bucks.

Sounds like the TCC solenoid. I just went through this with a customers car. It was locking as soon as the tranny would shift into 2nd gear, and would stay locked all the time. Only until slowing down enough for the tranny to shift back into first gear would it finally unlock.
 
You could just unhook it until the next time you drop the pan to do a filter change. That's what I plan on doing.
