I need to replace my converter since I found that Aamco installed the wrong one when the trans was rebuilt. Can anyone give me detailed instructions (what needs to be disconnected, in what order) on removing the trans ? I checked out the turbo regal site but the instructions aren't really detailed. I'll be working on the floor in the garage with ramps and jackstands. About how long should it take ?

Thanks,

smithgn

Ahhh ramps and jackstands. I know how to play that game.....:D

Lets see,

Drain the fluid, becareful not to spill.

Remove the linkages/tcc plug, Tcc shield (if you still have one), Convertor bolts, remove the rear mount/ exhaust hangar, driveshaft, Bell housing bolts, TV cable, cooling lines, and as the tranny lowers pull out the dipstick and leave hangin. The crossmember does NOT have to be removed but you can if you want the room.

Take you about an hour or so on your back. Take your time and becareful! What convertor are you installing?

Not sure on the converter yet, but I'm thinkin a 2800 stall from Pats Converters. I'm still running a stock turbo and if I do upgrade it would probably be to a ta49. Thanks for the help !

at that stall and a stock set up, a 2600 D-5 would work great for you. Make sure you get a unit that is brazed and bearinged.

If you opt for the 10" Pat's that will pretty much cover you until the end of a stock blocks range. Talk to Steve.
