Need help in selecting a convertor. I have a feeling the 8in listed in my sig will be too much. It was originally in my 600hp SBC setup and stalled to 5,000 with the t-brake and 3000 on the foot brake. Since I've upgraded to all the new parts listed below I decided to take the 12in convertor(1500) stall out and try this old 8in that I had in the garage. I have no track times as of yet with the new setup but since the longblock is completely stock I have a feeling I'll drive right over the convertor. Any help or info would be great!!

thanx - scott wile

i assume you will still be using the th400 with t brake?if not let me know.a th400 with stock ratio and 3.07 ratio and 8 inch will generate very high stall when not using the brake because there is less initial energy stored in the driveline to overpower the tires.if you leave at hi boost 20 plus lbs
(traction permitting)you probably will pass right thru the torque convertor and undoubtedly will with a brake .i would think a 10 inch would generate proper stall w/out a tbrake and certainly enough with tbrake at launch. a tight 10 with about 3200 will probably shoot the truck out of the gate nice.i need to know if its mainly track, boost level ,and tire size though before giving you the correct reccomendation.let me know.

Chris - thank you for the reply. It will be mainly track, 26in tire, and 20-30lbs of boost. Street driving will be limited and performance is the main concern. Do you know of a reputable convertor specialist that might be local here in Ca??

is that tire26 x 10.5 ,11,12,?maximum rpm with stock short block should be kept to around 6200 if you want to keep it together.1 would set it up to leave at 3600 to 3800 max and that flash stall after dumping the t brake.any more will kill traction .give me tire width, and if its less than 11 follow my instructions.

Tires are 26x10.5. With the 3.07 ratio I should be fine in the 1/4.
I would like to use the t-brake as little as possible. I've read many things about th400's not being very friendly to the thrust bearings in these GN motors. Using the t-brake is no longer an option. It's tough to come up with a combination for a light rear-ended car with less than satisfactory brakes.
