Anyone know why I can't change the coolant compensation spark advance on turbo6 tuner. It continually gives me an error and wants to enter -75 or -15 degrees. Wanted to recenter around a 160 stat. Thanks

Joel, you're not alone on that one. I would like to know why that is myself. While looking thru some bin files that I have, I found that the aftermarket ones are changed to match a 160 stat, but when I tried to change mine it resets to -75 so I couldn't. Hope someone knows the answer....

There actually may not be a need....just messing around to see what it does. I was basing alot of my first chip on my MM chip that I had, since it ran well, and going from there. I tried to change stuff in this table and it would jump to -75 and I would have to cancel it. Never did figure out what it does though.....

I was trying to center around the thermostat so that when I put 20 degrees in the main spark table, I run 20 degrees. Otherwise, you can do the math and add or subtract the coolant compensation from the main spark table. So in order to run 20 degrees at 160F, you have to put 18.2 or something weird in the main spark table.

Might also have something to do with the fact that many chip retail chip vendors put anti tamper code in their chips to protect them from people muking around in them, in an effort to protect their interests.

I think that you miss understood. I am using a factory bin to modify. I used my MM chip's bin as a comparison file to see what was different in it, to give me some ideas on where to start(this was months ago when I was just starting out, after the values wouldn't change I left it alone). By the way, the chip that I have made for my car myself now runs alot better than the MM chip ever did.

I don't think it's an antitamper code in the chip. I think it is a program problem. Looking at most my chips and the factory chip they show .1 for 80 C (170-180 F) which I think is right in most case. I have wonder the same thing about changing the values as I have run into that on other tables also. I see you posted that on the Tuner6 board also and hopefully Bob will be able to answer that. But you still will be able to add timing in the main spark table and end up with the same results. Sorry I could help anymore then that.

Hey Chuck!! Hows that car running? No, it's not an antitamper code unless a factory chip had it too:rolleyes: . Maybe Bob can help us on that table.

Donnie,

The car is running great, I have sent an email to cat tuner also to see if maybe they could help. I been watching your post and looks to me like you have a good handle on chip burn yourself now.;)

TurboDave is one of the best chip guru's but if they don't use the T-6 Tuner like us they don't understand what we dealing with but what affect what when changes are made you can't find a better source of info.

Keep it up Donnie

I was just pokeing a little with Turbodave.;) .Hope he didn't take offense. I have been watching his post and I agree, he is good and must have a mind like a steel trap(that's a compliment in the southeast!). What are some of the other programs people are using to modify there bin's? Thanks for that pat on the back! I sometimes feel a little down when I can't get it, but then I see everyone has to start somewhere.

If you take a look on the Gnttype resources, then look under chips if I remember right, TurboDave posted a speadsheet with all the tables and what it looks like. When you use the pocket programmer and when you are the chips you will see an option to edit the chip. I you take that option you will see all the lines and codes on the chips. Under the edit mode is where you can put in the blm lockup patches or other patches such as the fast update too.

I have been looking over it when I have time enough to study hard. Hopefully I will be able to modify it on that level soon so I don't have to use "mickey mouse" programs anymore. They are only as good as the programer and we all make mistakes.
