Hi,
Just wondering if i can get a ball park figure to repair some minor body rust. Here is what i'm looking at. I got an 87 Gn that had a good paint job back in 1998 most of the car still looks great. the only problem areas are some rust appearing on the lower part of the doors, along with some bubbling there too. And a rust hole on the rear driver's side lower quarter, about 2" in diameter. The rest of the paint still looks great and could be made close to perfect with some high speed buffing.

So to fix those areas, and to make the entire car look good, how much am I looking to spend here?

Thanks,
Eric

In my experience with my GN.....I also had "surface" rust at the lower doors rightnear the front. Actually it was rotting from the inside out and I never knew it. To repair it properly, the damaged area was cut out and a small 2" x 2" patch was welded in place. Then of course the entire door was repainted.

All this was done when I had the entire car repainted, so I couldn't tell ya how much for just the 2 doors.
Just wanted you to get an idea as to what you may be up against.
Best of luck. Chris

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of doing that, but I don't really want to repaint the entire car. Do you think If I fixed the door off the car, i could repaint the door, and have it match the rest of the car? Or do i really have to paint the door while it is on the car?

If you're not planning on painting the entire car, by all means you don't have to do it. I know that that can be quite expensive. Definetely removing the doors from the car would make repairing and repainting them easier. Any good paint shop will give you the best answer as to how well they can match the paint (shouldn't be too hard at all), and as long as you get the rest of the car buffed/polished to a nice shine again.....the difference from old to new paint should be minimal.
You really don't want to leave the rust spots too long.......as it will spread and cause more damage.......trust me. Best to nip it in the butt before it gets out of hand.
Then in the future if a complete paint job is in the budget.......the job will be that much easier (and cheaper).
