wondering if a small crack on the heater box, if thats what it is, would affect the a/c? its the box part directly behind the downpipe/passenger valve cover on the firewall, usually a heat sheild is there but mines off...

You can test it...

With the car off and cool. Turn the key on and turn the blower to max. Now hold your hand by the crack. Do you feel air escaping? If so it will definitely have an effect on the volume of air entering the cabin area of the car. As far as the actual outlet temperature being effected, the crack wouldn't have that big of an impact. The not running a heat shield between 1000+ degree downpipe and the a/c unit will definitely not help with cooling the air inside the air box.

Regal a/c units basically suck as far as internal design goes. I even put a more powerful blower motor in the regal box and the box is just so massive it is like standing in a hallway with one person blowing air into a straw. Then asking "hows the air" on the other end of the hallway.

Just my opinion,

ok thanks and yea air escaping. have to get that patch up and then need to get that heat shield back on.

Also would u know any thing about the air controls inside the car? wont switch air from the defrost vent to the front vents! would that be the control box need to be replace?

I'll have to snap a pic for you...

There is a vacuum coupler piece that holds the hoses onto the selector head unit. In the middle of this vacuum wheel is a plastic fitting that always breaks. The last one I got was from the dealer. I assume it still works for chevy and olds because noone sells 25 year old buick parts.

JJ, do you have the part number for the blower motor. That would be a great up grade here in Texas.

Does anyone need a blower motor or A/C evaporator? I'm taking mine off... Found a huge crack on the underside of the A/C box, so until I feel like replacing or repairing it, out it comes.

mines had the same crack on it even with the heat shield. Upon further inspection i found that the whole box had to be removed and thats when i found a hell of a lot of rust.just giving my experience with this problem.
