Finally I’m to the point of trying to install my inner upper door panels. Sometime ago I purchased some new black door handle straps, however the back of the area that they secure to on each side is torn out, anyone have any creative ways to secure before I take them to an upholstery shop and see what they can do the part that is torn is the part under the escutcheon that would secure the handle to the door

Also, I do not remember, but do the handles have the smooth side out or the ribbed side

I used 1/4-20 threadserts in the door.

Drill hole, using threadsert rivet tool install threadsert, & install 1/4-20 bolt.. The strap assembly will be WAY stronger & you can actually pull the door closed using the strap & not having to worry about pulling out the strap screws.

Ribbed side out smooth side towards door panel. They should only go one way. At least mine did.

And then there's Carl's way.....

Bigger Screws...

LOL

TBH, I really did that, on a GN I used to own, it worked, but then it was stolen, so fuck it.

**EDIT**

Man, I'm in a mood tonight... Last years New Year Resolution's misses, perhaps?

another quick fix for loose handle straps that works well without having to pull the door panel is bend the ends of a cotter pin so it looks like a T , spread it open a little and push into hole then send the old screw back in
works like a plastic insert in tile
