just putting my motor back together and had a question, when I first put the crank in I had .006 end play, finally got my rear main seal put it back together and now I have .003 . Is that normal for the rear main to take away that much end play? Thanks Jim

The rear main shouldn't take away any end play. I would recheck that. Did you do anything else in between measurements? Did you seat the thrust bearing properly?

If you loosened the thrust main at any point then you need to reset the thrust bearing. Do this by driving the crank rearward then forward with the cap pulled into place with the bolts without torqueing the bolts. You just want to make sure the two halves of the bearing insert are lined up. If you did not touch the thrust main you must have a measuring error on your initial measurement since the rear main has no effect on clearance.

I did loosen it. Loosened all the caps set the thrust again and it's back at .006. Thanks for the help guys. Jim
