I am reposting this because I didnt get much info i was looking for. Me and my father were looking through the new Hot Rod magazine and they had one of the main articles on hidden power releasers in engines (pg 40 for anyone who has it or just wants some reading material while the wife is in Barnes and Nobles). We took at peak and stumbled upon something odd that we have not see.
A crankcase vacuum pump. Here is what its says
"In the absence of a dry-sump oil system, using a Moroso or Stef's vacuum pump- with custom brackets to fit your application- to introduce 5 to 12 inches of vacuum into the crankcase has been proven to improve ring seal as well as eliminate positive pressure on the undersides of the pistons. We've personally seen vacuum pumps deliver 10-20 hp as they evacuate counter-productive combustion blow-by from the crankcase."
So my question is, is anyone running one of these things and what kind of improvements did you see? If not do u think its a good idea to run them (couldnt hurt could it)?
Oh heres the exact site for Moroso's Vacuum Pump just incase u want to take a peak

reason for running one

There are so many its hard to type them without getting mad

-Drag Racing and dip stick is out of engine by end of run
-Unknown Knock from alk kit
-blow through quart of oil every 100miles (an the engine just got looke over by a GM mechanic and says engine Very Sound)

You could disconnect and plug off the PCV and try running it to see if it helps. If it does it might be as simple as replacing the PCV valve. If the motor is sound and youre going through that much oil. I would look into the turbo seal. If you have a bad turbo seal on the intake side, that would explain your detonation also(ingesting oil). I would pull the up-pipe off the throttle body and look for oil in the up-pipe and T/B. HTH

More posts??

You asked for help in a previous post and when others offered help, when they got sufficient info, you make another post and ask the same ??'s.
Sounds to me like you don't have a clue as to what you want help with.. Suggest, as we did B4, that you find out what's causing the oil injestion and not be bent on adding a pump to cure that problem and the poor performance you say the alky kit is causing..
BTW, It's "my dad and I":D :D

Here's some info you don't want, but I'll pass it on anyway. Unless you have some sort of PCV problem pressurizing your crankcase, or an intake gasket leaking to the lifter galley you have a SERIOUS mechanical engine problem. Adding on a vacuum pump is NOT the solution. A quart of oil in 100 miles is NOT normal, and is an indicator of a serious internal engine problem of some sort.

Yes, A.I.R. pumps used as crankcase evacuation pumps do work, but they won't fix YOUR problem.

And by the way, copping an attitude with people won't get you very far. If you ask for help, kindly provide the information requested, and you just might get the help you need. Otherwise, you're on your own, and no one will even care.
