I've got a new cruise control lever that I need to install. Anybody ever replaced their's?
Do you need to remove the steering wheel to install it? If anyone knows of a step-by-step procedure, I would love to know it. Thanks,

If everything goes smoothly, you shouldn't have to pull the wheel. Under the dash, disconnect the 4 wire connecter for the turn signal/cruise stalk and securely tie a line to the portion that connects to the stalk. Remove the turn signal/cruise stalk by sharply pulling it from the column and carefully fishing the wiring and attached line through the steering column. When the stalk assembly is removed, attach the new switch wiring to the line that you just pulled through the column, pull the wiring through, and seat the cruise stalk into the column.

Thanks Brian. I'll look for the connection in the morning and give it a try. Thanks again.:D

Scott, it's a very easy procedure. Follow what Brian said and you won't have a problem! It only took me about 15 minutes to do mine.

I will be doing this project soon also. So the stalk just pops back into the column?

Who has the best replacement stalk?

Thanks for all the help and directions. I just got through installing my new lever. Took about 20 minutes total. For future reference, always remove the white plastic sheath in the column where the old wiring ran through. You can't feed the new wire and connector through this sheath. Also, use a very strong line when pulling the new wiring through. I got very lucky that when the fishing line I used broke, the connector was in a position for me to grab! I was very fortunate.

Anyway, the new stalk looks great. BTW, I got my stalk off ebay from a company in Canada (can't remember the name). Looks identical to GM and has the chrome stalk (Gm has discontinued the chrome....only all black is available). Thanks again, ;)

Yup pops right in place. Should be aligned properly however the way the other one came out.

Washer/wiper controls are mechanical.

Cruise stuff is a separate electrical wire that you snake down the column.

If you are really good you can get the new wire in the split plastic part the factory put in there to help protect the wiring. I am one for two in doing that. ;)

I use a 20 gauge single wire as a pull wire. Yeah you can break that too!

Good luck and happy snaking. :D

Yes, it does pop back into the stalk. I had to rotate it slightly while applying pressure to the stalk to seat the new one. Very easy.

Ha! I'm 0 for 1!:D :D
