We were on the way home from a local weekly cruise and the ritual visit to Wal-Mart when we got stopped at a traffic signal. My wife was driving. I was shotgun and my 5 year old daughter was in the back. We had the windows down, enjoying the warm summer night air. There was a red Chevy truck beside us at the light with a white bearded, (biker type, not Santa type) gentleman driving. He looked over at me and said, "Hey, is that one of them Grand Ams?". Me, not wanting to start a stoplight debate on exactly what the difference between a Grand Am and a Grand National was and knowing I would never have time to get into T's and WE4's, simply agreed with him. He asked what year and I told him " '87". He complimented "Nice car." I thanked him and thankfully the light changed.

Not that I minded discussing cars with the guy, but it was still warm and it was starting to get uncomfortable so I was glad to get the air moving again. My wife had seemed suprised that I didn't correct him and after she had left him several cars back and hit cruising speed she asked why I had not told him any different. I responded that sometimes it is just better to leave it alone.

Anyway, a couple of miles down the road a decision was made to pull into a Sonic Drive-In to get slushes to cool us down. We came around the building and as we were easing into the stall my wife noticed some blue lights and brought them to my attention. They were pulling a vehicle entering the Autozone right beside Sonic. We were astonished to find that it was the guy in the red Chevy pickup we had just spoken to at the light. This man got out of his truck and it seemed like it was getting pretty tense for a minute. Almost immediately there were 4 other law enforcement cars pulling in around him. After a few minutes they started searching his truck and by the time we got our slushes they had him in cuffs and were putting him in a cruiser.

I just looked at my wife and said "See, he may have been a mass murderer and if I had told him that he was wrong about it being a Grand Am then who knows what would have happened." But truthfully, I think he was going to jail because it is now against the law to not know what a TR is. :D

you should have drove back over and qued him up on the tr's real quick before his departure:biggrin:
