OK.. first a little background. I live in Germany and teach English for a company that makes sewing machines. For some reason, I have one class that is pretty much all women and another class that is pretty much all men. I think they work in different departments.
So, today I'm teaching the class of men. This is a middle level English course so they can understand some English but aren't PERFECTLY fluent yet. I dont' expect them to know everything in English and frequently have to explain the meanings of words since my German isn't that great either. So, in class today we're working on a listening assignment. One of my students asks a question because he's a little confused.
Student A: "The companies are neighbors?"
Teacher: "In this case yes, but normally you would not call two companies neighbors unless their buildings are next to each other. A better word would be competitors"
Student A: "So, I would say Ford and Volkwagen are competitors not neighbors"
Teacher: "Correct"
Student B: "Ford: Found On Road Dead"
Teacher: "Say that again, please"
Student B: "Found On Road Dead"
Teacher: LOL!!!
I was so amazed and amused to hear that 4000 miles away from the good old USA, that people still know the reputation of Ford. That was the only Ford saying he knew so being the good teacher I am, I wrote on the board a few others like: "Fix Or Repair Daily", "Driver Returns On Foot", etc.
Before anybody asks, yes this is a true story and it just happened today. I'm not trying to start a anti-Ford war or a pissing contest. Just wanted to share something amusing today.
