Has anybody here read this book? A friend at work just finished it and said it was a very interesting read. He said he wants to find more info about the "secret society" and it's history.

I read it. It's a rather simplistic and skewed version of the Holy Grail (sangreal or sangre real or royal blood) theory, basically saying that the Catholic Church supressed knowledge in order to supress women. (World ends! Women and minorities hardest hit!) There are actually much better books about the grail lore. There is some interesting scholarship that posits that Jesus (descendant of King David) married Mary Magdalene and had sons, and that the bloodline continues through the Merovingian Kings and Celt royalty to this day. It's wrapped up with Freemasonry, the Priory of Sion, the Gnostic Gospels, Dead Sea Scrolls, the Essenes at Qumran... Lots of really interesting stuff, but pretty heretical when you get right down to it. Of course, the "Davinci Code" doesn't get into all of it. Like I said, it's simplistic.

I read it and really enjoyed it. Action packed. Really cool to get into if you allow yourself to suspend your disbelief for a little while. This book was highly recommended to me, and was the first novel I finished reading in about 5 years... and I did it all in one weekend. Couldn't put it down. Then I went out and got Angels and Demons. Didn't like that one as much, but was still a great read for my annual week at the jersey shore.

...note that I'm not the book reading type of person. I'm no critic.

Left Behind series

If you want another series of books that are a good read. The Left behind series, I'm on book 10 of 13, is a fictional interpretation of the last 7 year on earth according to the book of Revelations. There's a lot of action and suspense in the story. Obviously it does have a religious tilt, but it is still an good read.
