for stock applications yes.for performance applications seek a vendor from this board.

I put a dayco in a g body once and snapped it on start up.yes it was installed correctly

converter is something i would not go cheap on because if it lets go it pretty much means you have to tear it down to the debris out. Go with a good 12" out from one of the vendors if looking for stock, or just look for a good used D5 for sale. Not much can beat a stock D5 in a stock car.

to be perfectly honest ive never had good luck with any aftermarket 12" units, but if the car is going to stay fairly stock they should do ok. If you are planning on a few mods i would recommend something better like a 10" pats or something that is affordable but will perform a bit better. What are your plans with the car? a D5 should be a good converter if sticking with the stock turbo etc...

I've got a 10" 3500 stall from dacco, while it's not my first choice it's what I could afford. I haven't had any problems with it yet.

I think you should look into maybe a red stripe converter (2600-2800 stall).....or maybe even an orange stripe converter (about 3000 stall). It will give the additional stall and won't break the bank. I think either converter can be had (brand new) from good venders like Mike Licht at fullthrottle for less than $300. Turbo Buick guys have been using these for many many years with great success. I think Ed Brewer is running an orange stripe in his car... and it has been 11.37 on a stock turbo, stock un-opened longblock car.... so you know they work.

IMHO..... as stated above.... stay away from the Daaco converters for your Buick.

HTH

I ran a 12" orange stripe convertor i purchased from Cottons about 5 or 6 years ago,It was an awesome convertor,And i could stall it up to 3100 with a te44

I run a stock D5 and pull 1.72 60s ft. The D5 is so under rated.

I think Ed Brewer regularly pulls some very low 1.50's  with his converter..... I will however agree with you that the stock D5 is under rated.....

orange stripe....

i cant say anything good about the one i had. lasted about 5000 miles. it would stall up high and build boost but had almost no torque multiplication when i launched. then it broke something inside and was making all kinds of noise, ballooned and took out the thrust beaaring in the motor. i bought a 9 inch 3000 art carr(original) from a friend and loved every minute off it. basically you get what you pay for and MY orange stripe was a waste of money. hope this helps. jeremy

Jeremy,

I don't really have a dog in the fight...... but your sig indicates you are making waaaaaaaay more HP than stock. I don't know what your times are.... but you have enough parts in your combo to go at least low 10's. Surely you would agree that if you were running a mild combo... the results would likely not be the same.......anyway..... just another point of view........

actually that was on a really mild combo about 7 years ago. i had the following: 009s, t/netics stage 3 cheetah, atr frontmount, 210/205 cam, stock heads and THDP. i never got any good times with that convertor but it went 12.46@111 with a stock D5 and conservative tune.

later, jeremy

Well my car is basically stock and i was looking for a little bit more stall...but it seems like you guyz dont like the dacco converter
