I've seen this complaint before, but now I'm going through it  ..I have brake lights, but no turn signals. My dash indicates a turn signal but it doesnt blink the way its supposed to and a local guy says I need to get inside the steering column to correct the problem...I don't buy that. I tried the gnttype.org archive but there were to many listings...any help or ideas would be appreciated

hey due, give me more info and ill help.when you hit turn stalk the turn indicator lamp comes on (L & R)and doesnt flash? if this is the case on both sides, check for a lamp(s) being out on each side(all lamps must work to put the right load on the flasher for it to flash)if not does energency flasher work and ALL lamps work with it? if so check your turn flasher (there are two- turn and emerg. dont mix them up)i belive turn flasher is in fuse box.

your left lamps and right lamps ground seperately, its rare for both sides to go out at once.

1)check bulbs

2)check bulb sockets-tight and clean -puting some dielectric grease afterwards helps keep out moisture, #1 cause of problems.

3) verify that park/turn positive voltage and ground are at sockets

4)then,if all else checks out, check flasher, then turn signal lever......

I had to diagnose another car a few weeks ago, it had no brake lights but turn signals were working. It was the turnsignal hand control in the steering column. The opposite of your issue.

First thing i would check is does the HAZZARD button on the side of the steering column make the lights flash?

NO?
Check all the fuses under the dash, and check to see if the large round flasher unit is working thats plugged into the fuse panel.

YES?
Then you just eliminated the light bulbs.

FYI
if you get confused, there is a quick connection for the wiring harness inside the trunk on the drivers side. This could be loose or burnt.

Jeez, I monkyed around a bit, found a wrong bulb in the left tail....all lights work....hazards flash just fine, but no turn signals, however the indicator lights up on the dash but does not flash....this petty crap is keeping me from getting the GN tagged

change the turn signal flasher.

Yup, if that doesnt fix it, pull out the flasher and check to see if the flasher was getting power when you hit the turn signal. Pull the flasher and check the terminal strip on the fuse panel.
