Dashmount dragstrip?

Does any of you guys have one of those G-tech, G-timers or any other windshield mounted timers? That predict speed times, horsepower and ect... I was looking through my Hot Rod book at the ad and considering buying the Passport unit by Escort. Do you guys think it's worthwhile? Is it accurate? Any pro's or con's.

they usually claim with in .1 ET or so and probably 1-5 mph, i wouldnt use it as a tool to "claim" what your car can do, but to use it as a tuning tool after making changes can be done, but you have to make sure certain variables (road surface, weight of car, etc) are kept the same in order to know if your change is giving the desired results
i picked up one of the 30 dollar ebay Gtec's last year, its still sitting in its box

I know the actual dragstrip is the only way to know where you're at, but I was just thinking it might be a good tuning tool and a little something to play with between buddies. No one actually used one yet? Just wondering before I spend my money.

I've had one for years. Took it to the dragstrip and over 6 runs, it was no more than .06 seconds off the timeslip from the track. MPH is a little different in that the G-tech measures mph at the instant of the 1/4 mile marker whereas the drastrip measures the mph over the last 30' of the dragstrip.

i have a basic g-tech. i ran it at the track once, it was 3/10ths off et and something like 8 mph off. hp is far from being close. i really dont' think i'm only putting 160 hp to the ground. its not very accurate.

but what it is, is consistant. i can make 3 passes on the street (in the same direction) and be within .05 of eachother. make a small change and see that change. I wouldnt' use it to say this is what my car runs, but for working out some bugs and not having to pay to go to the track, its definatly worth it.

another great thing it can do is record highest g force. thats great for watching your launch at the track. its easy to see if your spinning, or had a normal or better than normal launch. great for bracket racing.
