Does anybody run the deep aluminum pans on their 2004r and what filter do you run , I was wondering about the filter staying in the pump and not falling out because of the deep pan , I was thinking the stock pan the filter has no where to go because of the depth of the pan . Any ideas ?

The deep aluminum sheet metal pan I run has an aluminum pick up tube that uses a valve body bolt to hold it in place very secure. I believe the filter screwed on the end is a 727 TF filter.

You can used a 700-r4 transmission filter, but you're going to have to get a separate transmission gasket since a normal 200-4r transmission filter and gasket comes together as a set in your auto part store.
here is a example of a 200-4r and 700-r4 filters. I too have a deep pan and used a 700-r4 filter, works great.
No need to cut the top part of the filter as it will fit, just make sure to cut off or grind down the little tabs inside the transmission pan.
This site have the 200-4r transmission pan gasket

Also has the 700R4 transmission filter

Does the 700r4 filter work with the Hughes HP3880 deep pan with no mods ?
i got my stage 3 from lonnie at extreme automatics,it has the hughes deep pan on it ,im sure he can give you the part numbers for the filter, mine just pops up in the VB like a normal one and the pan has these little rivots that help it hold in and up in place also.

Kim, I have used and sold many Hughes that comes complete with the 700 filter, gasket and of course a bolt kit.

NO!

The pan is made for a stock filter and there are 3 bosses [stands] cast into the bottom of the pan to keep the filter in place.

If you use a 700 filter like most do, the stands need to be trimmed about 3/16" since the filter is thicker.

Is the result here that the Hughes kit (pan, filter etc) will work w / o any mods?? A reasonably simple conversion with better results?

The kit I got has 700r4 filter with it from Summit in it , so the tabs still need to be trimmed some for it work ?

I just installed the Hughes pan and filter last fall. Bought from Summit, and came with the 700 filter. I never modded anything, works perfect.
