Hey all. In my web site (www.my84t-typenj.50megs.com), you can see a couple pics of my engine compartment. While I got that dirty ole motor out, I want to make that inside shine like new. there is all sorts of grease, dirt, and crap all up in every nook and cranny. How the heck can I get it all? How should I go about cleaning this thing up? Any cleaners/paints/rags or anything special that I should use? Thanks everybody!

John

i am doing the same i used greased lightining and a small wire brush and 2 hours and i had a shiny clean frame. then painted it with some flat black engine paint i had laying around.

Greased Lightning rocks! But it will take your skin off too. You have to agitate it like was said with a brush. This may mean disassembling some of the external components to get back to the grease. Fortunately you should be able to maintain it better once all the stuck-on gook is gone.

We just use simple green let it soak full strength then with a wire brush and garden hose go at it. Then repaint anything that needs it. Use the lemon scent doesn't get so over whelming that way.

cd-2 user here.

if you use simple green, dilute it and don't let it sit too long before washing off. over time it can fade black items like hoses.

Should I paint my inner fenders? They look faded already, and I am going to recover most of the hoses and harness with new wireloom wrap, so in the event that a degreaser doesnt quite accomplish what I want, just paint it? My Firewall looks like a total mess, that is my first battle field, then the fenders/wells and the cross member/a-arms. I know por 15 is great on the underbody stuff, but what do I use on the plastic stuff? Krylon?

Thanks all!

John
