Given 24# boost with a stock cam, Champion irons and intake and a good I/C, how much difference in HP between a 51 and a 61 and the 62 over the 61? Have the converter to support any of the upgrades.

Not to sound unappreciative of any response, but I would prefer the answer not be based on the vendors advertised HP.

get you a LT 45 and a change of undies ..that car would be sick mph.

I gotta build be a light car one day.. 128 with stock motor is nuts..makes me wonder what my combo would do in a light weight car :)

I ran a TA-52 before and it work okay, but when I removed this turbo (for Exhaust Wheel problems) and installed my new TA-62 the car responded better. This 62 turbo pulls alot harder than my 52 at same boost level (24 lbs). I personally would pick a 60 series turbo over a 50 series any day.

Hey scottie i seen your car at reynolds it ran real good, the motor look it was made in the car. The car is going to look good when it gets painted. What color? Anyways thumbs up!!!! :D :D

Red,

those visions have danced around in my head but I would need a cam to deal with the RPMs in 3rd as I believe it would be in the 135+ range. That would put me at 5500+ in 3rd, not something I want to do on a regular basis while I am still driving it to events with a bone-stock shortblock. It went 129.65 at Reynolds with 25.5# boost on the 51.

Craig,

what color? GN black, of course :D.

Hp?

Did anyone answer your question? Check out the compressor maps on the Turbonetics web site. IF you know the compressor for the 51/61/62, you can see the airflow capacity. HP should be pretty much proportionate, assuming that the turbo vendors give a decent match on the turbine side to go with compressor upgrades. I don't know where to find the specs on the various turbos, though. Turbonetics is the only one with compressor maps, and their numbering system may/may not match Limit or PTE.

Ormand,

no, the question was not answered and seems like it will never be as I have seen this topic before but never with an answer.

I have studied the compressor maps and what that leads to is root of the issue. If 2 turbos use the same compressor side, what difference does the various turbine sides make? The 44 and 51 uses the same compressor (T04E 60 trim) but Limit rates the 44 at 475hp and PTE rates the 51 at 575. Even with ported heads, you would be hard pressed to makes 475 with the 44 w/o pushing at least 25# boost. 25# and 475hp makes sense on the map. Pushing it to 27# to make 495hp puts you outside the map. The Precision housing is supposed to make a difference on the 51. I am pushing almost 26# to make 484 and coincidentally that matches the 44 if you extend it linearly, but begins to put me outside the efficiency range of the map. I know I do not have an optimum tune, but what do you have to do to realize the other 90hp? Seems the 575 rating is just the max flow on the map, but to stay w/in the map you would have to running about 22#. 575hp w/22# from a 51? Maybe on a S2, but who would run a 51 on a S2? However, if that is the case, then just say so.

So, the same question carries over to the 61/62 which uses the same compressor side but different turbine wheels. I could be misreading the maps and be all wrong so I will just get a 62 and hope for the best.

must let the exaust out the motor.

goes to show my theory same compressor side and better flowing exaust and its rated more power.. huummmmm

works with cams too..

man I gotta built a lightweight rocket..:)
always wanted a first gen rx-7 with power and the more i see your times and mph the more im thinking about it ...but dam i cant get my car to stay strait

i've had the 51 as all know and mine made good power with it (temporarily) ;) but its nothing like a big turbo.

personally if I was at your point I'd hit the heads and cam and if turbo holds on it will probly be fast enough to scare the crap out of you.

BTW: what was the weight on your car again..I done forgot
