Guys, Is the '85 block the same 109 block that's in the 86-87? Same crank?
Same tranny?
Same rearend?

Also, I know there have been many hot air conversions to the '86-87 drive train, but has anyone just left the short block the same and added the '86-87 accessories, headers, ignition, wiring harness, intercooler and turbo to look like an intercooled car?

Or is the drivetrane swap a must?

Grounding for the question. There is a running '85 GN local for sale and I have an '87 drive trane but I don't want to use the block at this time. Can I just bolt on everything around the stock '85 short block and get the same results?

Thanks???

I don't see why you woulnd't. I thing the only differences in the block's is the 14 or 20 bolt oil pan. And I beleive the blocks are differtent because ther 109 is a bit heavier.

I beleive you would also need to drill a hole in the front of the block for the oil return from the turbo.

It's been done

As stated you will have to drill a hole for the turbo return line. Sine you already have the parts for the swap I think you shouldn't have a problem. Dan Smith ( don't know if he's still around) did this years ago with his car. He suggested getting a complete intercooled motor instead of getting the parts for the swap ( some parts are really hard to find ). What you will find is the 85 block under the intake isn't made the same for the oil to drain back into the motor. It looks like someone took a chisel and beat section out. That's just the way they are. Your 87 block should have some neatly drilled hole under the intake.

thanks for the reply. The '85 that I looked at was in worse shape then described so I passed on the offer.

Thanks
Frank
